Today i set up my bluetooth keyboard with my imac something happened help please?

The f keys on the top, such as f1 f2 f3, etc. on my old keyboard did what the printed pictures on the keys showed, example f1 turned brightness down, f2 turned brightness up and so on. However when i set up my wireless keyboard that i just bought at the apple store. I connected it to my imac and now when i hit f12 it does my dashboard instead of volume up, and the rest are either not working or do not perform the correct function.
sorry eric, but i have tried that many times and it does not change anything for me, when it is unchecked the buttons perform the same actions as when the button is checked
 
I had this same problem. There's a solution. Open System Preferences, click on "Keyboard", and uncheck "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys". That should make the printed keys actually do what they say.
