To get an 848 evo or hold off till 2012?

Just sold my 848 2009.. Evo I'm coming! the question is red or black?? I had a pearl white and I'm gonna miss that look.

I don't understand why people keep saying that it is much better to go for an 1098 instead of a 848. Sure - the 1098 is faster, stronger and it has more power. Well.. of course it's about a freakin 1098cc!! ;-) but it is also heavier right? Which means it depends on your type of riding. I had an R6 before and I switched to an 848cc which is my first V-twin by the way. Large enough to learn new stuff in order to appreciate this new engine. Unfortunatelly I don't have enough time and energy to ride on track (I've done it before with dirtbikes like supercross and stuff) but now I'm done. So the 848 is large enough for an experienced street rider. It is already a luxe compare to the other bikes on the market. You still want to upgrade to 1098?

Well.. I'd say go for an 1098 if you can go on a track you'll have more fun. The 848 is more of a top street bike that you can easily lean like a MotoGP triple champion plus the evo has 140hp now woooohoooo!!!

I kind of wish my wife was like you guys... i was expecting more people to say hold off.

right now it really comes down to budget and i really don't want spend that kind of money right now.

i could always sale off the 996 and cover some of the ground, but i really want to have a track day bike and a daily rider/twisties bike. cause my buddy just low sided his R6 at the track now he is SOL for a bike for a couple months. not something i would really enjoy.

So being patient and saving to 2012 for hopefully a new middleweight or most likely to get a good deal on a second hand 848 that time.

as for getting a 1x98, i sold off a 08 CBR 1000 and a 05 636 about 3 months ago, and i would of rather rode the 636. the CBR was twice the bike, but having to ring the life out of the 636 to keep up was more fun i think, and more my riding style.

The decision depends on what type of motorcyclist you are. If you want the latest and greatest then hold off for two years. However, if you like to upgrade or modify your toys then get something now. However, if you're the type that wants the latest and greatest then in two years you may find yourself still undecided due to "Gee, what's coming out next year?". That was me for quite a long time. Once the 1098/848 series was released I found it so damn gorgeous that it was all over but for writing the check. Will something come out that's better? Sure. Will I care? Not really. I'm having way too much fun upgrading and ridng my 848.

No matter what you get, there's alwas something better just around the corner. Ask yourself one question, "Will it put a smile on my face every time I go out to the garage"? If the answer is yes then the decision is obvious. And really, only racers really should put so much emphasis on "latest and greatest".

I'm picking up a left-over non-evo 848 for a very good price since everyone now wants the evo. The evo is not enough "new and improved" IMHO to outweigh the price break on the left-over...

I don't understand the point of waiting. By the time 2012 comes around there will be even more options to mull over (Ducati, Aprilia, BMW, Jap bikes, etc.). Therefore making your decision even tougher! Get what you want when you want it.

If money is an issue, consider waiting until winter because thats when dealers are more susceptible to low-ball offers because its off-season. Of course that might screw you too if you don't like riding during the winter months; but not me, I've been known to ride in 17 degree weather!

Well went and talked to the dealer today... when they told me the best OTD price it was more then i was really wanting to spend today.

not sure, if el paso, tx has an off season, cause the local track up in new mexico, runs year round so that might be a tough battle.

also my dealer really only orders superbikes. so trying to talk them down on something they would have to order in might be tough also.

and the lady tried to get me OTD on a 1098R used with 154 miles, asking 30k. if the 848 was to much that surely was too.

well the ole 996 keeps the smile on my face thank goodness, and looking at prices for parts i could spend a fortune on her.
