To fuse or not to fuse, that is the question?

hi spineys!
I am going on 6 years of chronic pain...finally, at 36 years old and having a 16 month old baby boy (big baby at 28lbs), I am truly considering of having a fusion of the one level - L4/L5. I have already exhausted all treatments, including 2 microdiscectomy surgeries. It is quality of life, which has been affected by chronic pain now on a daily basis...for far too long!
I am nervous as hell, to be honest..but feel it might be time to make a drastic move that could make my future better OR not..which is why I am writing to you. I realize that most of you are on these boarRAB in need of guidance, advise or an ear to listen...but I hope to be inspired to take this next move...
Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same boat. I'm 37, 6 years of chronic pain, 2 discectomies, and now I'm scheduled for a fusion at L5-S1 on Nov 8th. I'm extremely nervous. I knew I would need to do it eventually, but I was hoping I'd have a few more years. My kiRAB are 4 and 21 months. It's so hard being in pain all the time and trying to care for little ones. I'm hoping things will go smoothly for me with this surgery. I figured I'm in pain and have so many physical restrictions/limitations anyway, I might as well have the surgery.

I'll let you know how it goes...

Before I would consent to be fused in my lurabar, I would definitely make sure that I researched "Artificial Disc Replacement" and only be fused if ADR would not work.

With all do respect, I would never have an artificial dics replacement without longer evidence/research. It is way too new of a procedure here in the U.S.

amazing how similar our situations are!! please keep us posted and I wish you lots of luck!!
