To crack an i-phone, what is the difference between Unlock and Jailbreak?

I want to have cracked aps on the i-phone, but don't want to change the phone setting and heard rumours when the i-phone is cracked you lose your atna and sim carrier. Is there is a easier way for fake apps for i-phone. There is a rumour going around that there is a virus attacks your phone and steals your information. This is for 3g and 3gs. Which one is easier to use quickpwn or blackra1n and what does each do, is it safe.
