I am currently an Exec. Asst. working in the field of non profit arts, and I am happy for the most part. I feel somewhat unfulfilled in what I am doing, in that I know I'm capable of more. When I expressed to my boss that I want to take on more of a leadership role, his response has been that he's willing to allow me to take on more, but not willing to let me go as his Exec. Assistant.
A co-worker from the same company has since left to join another non profit institution (different industry) and has offered me the Office Manager position. It is a start up venture and while I don't believe the role to be much of a step up in terms of moving my career path forward, I do believe that he, as my boss, will be much more flexible in allowing me to expand my experience and move up in the company. The money/perks/benefits are great, but I don't know what I want to be doing long term, and I'm not sure that this is the right opportunity.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
