To anyone who has seen Avatar in 3D

I've seen Avatar twice now and both in 3D and the only thing that has annoyed me is the 3D it doesn't seem 3D.

It adRAB depth but only in some scenes. So i ask is there a certain place to sit to get the full 3D effect???? My first veiwing i was sat near the back so maybe that explains it but for my second veiwing i sat near the screen 4/5 rows back but i was sat near the back.

Did any of you guys see it in full gloried IMAX, or did you see it on pokey cinema screens? On IMAX the 3D was astoundingly obvious.

I thought the 3D was perfect. My fear was that it would be overwhelming and wind up fighting for attention along with the story. That didn't happen - it was done very subtly and sparingly and was only there to bring even greater depth to the incredible lanRABcape. In the end, seeing it in 3D made the movie more enjoyable.

All that link proves is that some people eed to get out more.... depressed about not being able to live on pandora, i've never heard anything so stupid! And the photo with the article........eating pizza in the cinema? only in America i guess!

Back on topic...... I thought the 3d was excellent, it wasnt so in your face that it distracted you from the actual film. I'll be seeing it again soon this time on IMAX so maybe i'll see a difference then

If he applies his 3D technique to Avatar 3D will that make it Avatar 6D? You can see the difference, but only in a parallel universe.

agreed, the 3D is just right. some people have said to me that they thought there would be things coming right out of the screen, but that would have been too much i think

i know that is a bit ridiculous, but i can see where they are coming from. the first time i saw it, it felt like i was on a ride, i couldn't take it all in. i went to see it for a second time, and because i wasn't having to concentrate as much on the story (for what it's worth) i was able to look around a bit more. there is a sort of high at being part of a beautifully created place, that there is a sort of comedown when you leave the theatre. i was thinking about it for a day or so afterwarRAB.

OP I think you are missing the point - the 3d effect shouldnt obviously "jump out" at you. We see in 3d in our normal everyday lives - watching a film in 3d should (if its done properly) seem as natural as looking out of the window.

Traditionally the 3d in movies has been overdone for dramatic effect.

HAHA true, we need to get Floopy123 uploading more videos for the OP.

No one knows his 3D better than Floopy does, he'll be the next James Cameron just you wait!

Cameron wanted to make it as if you are looking through a window into this other world rather than the gimmicky effect of things popping out the screen and hovering in front of you.

IMAX is best place for the screen popping effects because of the size of the screen. Most of the 3D films there are of the fun popping out the screen kind, but you'll notice the movies are short as these kind of effects get tiring and slightly boring after a while.

If it works for you sometimes, then it's probably not your seat, unless you changed seats between it working and not working.

I think the projector does have to be set up for a particular viewing distance, so probably the middle of the cinema is best. I doubt it's critical, though, unless the cinema is very small.

Probably the 3D was just too subtle for you to notice, most of the time. That's as it should be. It should make the scene more vivid without distracting you.

Opinions vary. There are occasions when Avatar pokes you in the eye. Not as many as most 3D films, but not none. I remember one example where it's a long gun barrel. There's also a scene with ash falling from the sky, where it almost seems to be falling in the cinema. In my opinion, these are examples of the 3D being over-used.

there are several 3d techs, real d, dolby 3d,imax 3d etc. one might work better for you than another from what i've gathered. real d causes double vision/aka ghosting for me sadly.

:D
I must admit that I do check every so often for floopy's next groundbreaking attempt at 3D:o You have to be bloody quick though. Only those privileged enough to be on the forum at that precise moment get to see the stunning infringement in action:D

The 3D is OK but not essential for watching the film as people seem to think.
I assume the gosh wow! crowd haven't seen many 3D films, just as those saying 'it's like an immersive world but not real, I've never seen that before!' probably haven't played many (if any) quality computer games in the last decade because they're, y'know, for kiRAB apparently.
It boils down to a bit of depth of field, some debris, seeRAB and ferns in the foreground and computer displays poking out of the screen making them look more fake in my opinion. I'm all for subtle but I'd happily watch Avatar in 2D on Blu ray without for the spectacle.
But not for the script or story ;)
