Can someone explain to me that chapter where Wnderer and Melanie was going to Picacho Peak? I don't understand what they talk about the "lines going north, then south" or something like that?? What's with Uncle Jeb?? Why do they think he's crazy?

If possible, can you explain to me the chapter "Dehydrated"??
