Tmobile Sim card in AT&T phone?

My dad gave me his old AT&T Samsung phone. My old phone was a Tmobile Nokia. I was wondering if there was a way that I could get my Sim card from the Tmobile Nokia phone to work in the AT&T Samsung phone? My dad sent me a you tube link on how to unlock it or something but that's if its an AT&T card in a Tmobile phone.
 
The youtube videos are mostly not reliable and may end in bricking the phone. I suggest you can get the Samsung unlocked either through network provider or third party unlockers.
