TMobile Sidekick, Data Service Plan?

I am currently switching phone services from Verizon to TMobile. I would like to get the new sidekick but it states that a data service plan is required. Now I don't need the internet and all of that from the plan. I'm wondering if I could just get the phone without the data service plan. If anyone knows and can help I appreciate it. Thanks
