Go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Delete all versions of the OS from there.
Then go to www.tmobile.com/bbupgrade Go there and select the OS for the 8100. Then enter your phone number which will allow you to download and install the OS to your PC (no need to delete the vendor.xml file since it's a T-Mo OS). Connect the BB to the PC and it should do the rest automatically.

i usually just wipe the OS off when i send them back.

well i just tried to downgrade and bricked my phone now the desktop manager won't read the phone
Try this:
Uninstall the OS and Desktop Manager from your PC via the Control Panel and then go here to reinstall the OS

Connect the BB to the PC then open Application Loader. Select Update Software and it should walk you through the rest.

use your carrier OS as they may not warrent the exchange for your phone and charge you money. this has happend to me in the past
I bricked my 8320 once and found some help here in the forums.
I can't remember the steps exactly but its something like this.
Remove the battery, connect the phone to the pc and start the downgrade again as usual. Before the phone reboots replace the battery again.

It has not happened to me but I said IF the OS is not from the carrier. Just explaining what he needed to do if he went that direction.
