Episode 5.02: Demons and Dragons
Original Air Date: February 23, 2008
Written by Joe Kelly

Previously on TMNT: The Ninja Tribunal formally introduces itself to the acolytes, and begin their training, including a deadly taste of the power the enemy wields. Also, the Ancient One and Splinter arive at the Lap of the Gods.

This week, on TMNT: The acolytes' training regimen continues, as the Shishos teach their students how to channel chakra into jutsus. Unfortunately--SPOILER ALERT!--nobody learns to turn into a naked hottie. Afterwards, the Turtles and Company are taken on their first mission. Objective: retrieve the first artifact, guarded by a squadron of Kappa.

ETA: Dammit. Can a mod please add the missing quotation mark and spoiler tag to the title? Thank you!

Yeah, the episode was good. I can see now where everyone commented that these episodes were too anime-inspired, but it doesn't bother me too much.

You know, this kind of puts Fast Forward into better perspective after watching this season. Back here, the TMNT were experiencing magic, using power-up weapons, and dealing with demons and dragons for mostly the first time.

In Fast Forward, they go to a futuristic Earth where aliens live on the planet, they use futuristic versions of their weapons, and they deal mostly with aliens and cyborgs.

In general, what I'm getting at is I think FF would have been better received if 4kids simply aired this season first, the way it was intended to. It really shows how the writers had a natural progression for the Turtles, and it makes more sense now.

Overall I liked the ep, yeah more training but it was entertaining. I can't wait to see the "true" Shredder next weekend. :)

Hmm, not bad, either, even though this is all probably lost on me.

Anyone care to explain the disdain for Splinter by the Tribunal here?

Yoshi went to the Ninja Tribunal for their help to deal with Ch'rell, but they refused seeing as how he wasn't worth it and that the true Shredder was more of a threat. And because of that, well you know what happens afterwards.

Great episode. Loved the way the turtles spent the episode focusing on their inner chakra. :)

Is that Slash?

I'm more interested in seeing how the True Shredder lived and how Ch'rell was inspired to take his image.

While we do find out the former next week, the series never shows us how Ch'rell comes to take on the mantle.

Pretty solid episode, though I do feel the writers kinda made the final 'reveal' out to be bigger than it really was - even assuming you forgot the end of season 4 and missed all the previews, it's pretty obvious who this evil is that the tribunal keeps referring to. The audience knows more than the characters, which in this case is a bad thing.

Yeah I also forget why the forge denied Leonardo...does anyone who remembers all the eppys wanna fill that in for us in spoilers?
