TMJ Surgery Gone Bad

eyes of heart

4 years ago I had TMJ surgery and 4 months later had another surgery to remove scar tissue. The reason I had surgery was because I had painful clicking in my jaw and sometimes it would get stuck. Results from the surgery include: humming/ringing 24/7, slight pain frequently in front of the ear, difficulty hearing, especially when in my classroom, and finally I still cannot get my mouth open more than two fingers on top of each other. I did see a chiropractor who did some adjustments, and gave me exercises to do. He feels there is scar tissue again and surgery will be needed to eleviate these problems. Recently I saw my regular doctor and I was informed that there is scar tissue on my ear drum. They will give me a referral if I can find a doctor/surgeon that will tackle this problem. Most want to stay away from TMJ surgery because of the problems that arise from the surgery. Anyone out there with similar complications after TMJ and if so, what did you do?

Thank You!

I'm sorry your surgery did not work for you..I had TMJ in 1986, I did not know what was wrong with me, luckly my sister in-law worked for an Oral Surgeon, and he tired me on a splint, it was unsucessful, and I had the surgery on both sides, my discs where taken out both disc where deteriated and my jaw was rubbing raw causing the pain and headaches. I could not open my mouth either I was afraid my jaws would lock, and tephlon ones where put in..
Find a good Oral Surgeon.
and good Luck to you, I know its' very painful.
My friend had TMJ surgery and its' done differently now, they use skin graphs instead of removing the whole disc.
dont waste time on dentist of Primary care doctor.
Find a specialist Oral Surgeon.
