TiVo is just a recorder for whatever TV source you have.
The older single tuner Series 2s can do antenna, analog cable, or almost any box based service.
The Series 2 DT model does not support antenna at all, and its dual tuner feature requires analog cable. Otherwise it supports what the other Series 2s support.
The HD models can do analog and digital antenna, and analog cable in Canada. Digital cable requires Cablecard, which providers do not currently offer, nor is there any indication they may. The HD models do not support a box at all.
You would separately subscribe to your TV service (if not antenna), and the TiVo service from TiVo USA. The TiVo subscription is just a fee to use DVR features and provide guide data.
