title of old B/W film .. help needed.

Hoping someone can help me with the title of a film I saw on BBC about 2 years ago

It was a black and white British film from around the 50's early 60's maybe

Far as I can remember a man who's wife was cheating on him, kidnaps the bloke and chains him in a small room, and then over a matter of months fills a bath there with acid that he brings to the room in hot waterbottles under his coat.

I know at some point the man who's chained up somehow enRAB up with the wife's small dog that he tries to teach to pull the bath plug out.

I though the title was the small back room or something like that, but haven't been able o find it

any help appreciated
 
It is a really good little film
I thoroughly recommend it
and now I know the title happy to see that it's out on DVD :-)
 
Before I decide whether to watch it or not, there is something I need to know - does anything nasty happen to the dog?
If so I'm not watching! :(
 
It's touch and go a couple of times, and I didnt remember 100% for sure,
but dont worry the dog is fine :-)
