Tires...trying to decide between two

I think I have decided I want to replace the stock tires with either the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III or the Dunlop Qualifier. No track use, only street, for an 06 999s. Any suggestions on which way to go as I have heard good about both.

I really like the Corsa III's on the street. Good grip, quick turn in and they last reasonably well. I've used them on the track too with no complaints other than you can over heat the soft shoulders on the rear if you're too greedy with the throttle.

Have you considered the Metzler M-3's??? They're GREAT tires and warm up quickly. Super sticky too. I highly recommend these.

I ran the M-1's before this set and there's a huge difference in performance and quality. Mileage seems about the same--- maybe a little more durable but I haven't ran it to the tread yet.

Give these a try. Much better than the Dunlops for sure!

Sorry to interrupt but I have a question. Do the Corsa IIIs have a similar profile to the o.e. Supercorsas? I came from Mich 2cts and the Supercorsa pros seems to turn in more linear than the 2cts. They just don't last long enough.

No, they are more rounded and don't turn in as quite as quick, but last longer and not as sticky.

Agreed, but! If you go with the standard PP and drop the 2ct you will find the turn in more predictable and linear... And as you mentioned don't last as long..

Just my experiances, others may vary..

I just finished destroying a rear Pirelli OEM tire at a track day. They don't last very long when you ride them hard.

Anyway, I personally ride on Michelin Pilot Power's on my 999s. AND, I just picked up a set of Michelin 2CT's for my Tricolore.

Hi Johnny, I ride pirelli diablo superbike slicks; I get 2 track days out of them and that is it! I was talking with the Dunlop dealer and he suggested a Dunlop NTEC medium compound slick. He said that if you are a good rider and you warm up the NTEC they will last much longer than any Michelin and/or Pirelli without even talking about Bridgestone and on top of that they apparently have a much much better grip. Steve added that the Dunlop NTEC is the official tire of AMA races and a tire at a much higher level than the above two. Of course they are a bit higher in price ( $ 460.00 per set + shipping). He also said that if we want the comparable to our "Michelin Power Race" or "Pirelli Diablo Superbike" we can purchase a Dunlop slick that runs $ 290.00 delivered. Food for thought.

So my next track day at VIR south I will give them a try (Dunlop NTEC 195 rear and 120 front both medium compund); I have allways been skeptical about Dunlops but apparently these NTEC are something superior.....we'll see. I also made a deal with the dealer that if I like these tires I will order 3 or 4 sets at a time and get a pretty good discount because of that.

I think i'll try the standard PP's next. Thanks for the input. I've got 2k miles on the o.e. Pirelli and i'm at the wear bars on the edges of my front tire. No track yet, just twisties.
