I'm a 38 year old female 5'8" 155 pounds. I am cold I mean really cold and tired all the time. I have migraines. I can't concentrate or think clearly any more. My heart rate is 58 bpm. My normal temp is 97 degrees. I have very dry skin and I drink lots of water as I stay thirsty all day and night. My neck and shoulder muscles ache alot. The last 4 months I have been very bloated and gained 15 pounds. I walk 3 miles a day so I get a fair amount of exercise a day. I eat healthy, lots of fruits and veggies and no sugars. I've been tested for thyroid and diabetes two years ago and the tests were negative but things keep getting worse and now I have heart pains. Doctor says its depression....Life has its ups and downs but I don't feel depressed but if things don't get better I think I might. Please help!!!

elizabeth2010: It sounds like perimenopause. Get Dr. John Lee's book "what your doctor won't tell you about menopause" and he's got one on premenopause too. They're a woman's bible for menopause. I was just telling another woman on another board to look up Estrogen Dominance. It's all in Dr. Lee's book. There are around 40 symptoms/side effects of it. Estrogen loves fat! That's why women gain weight in perimenopause because the body is getting ready for the CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See if you can get to an endocrinologist and get your hormones checked. If they come back as being "ok" then still get some progesterone cream and use it at night before you go to bed. I found out I was having anovulatory cycles and my ovaries were shutting down and not making progesterone, the calming hormone.

The migraines come right in line with what happened to me. I started having epileptic seizures 5 years ago because of all this "mental-pause"!!!! Migraine sufferers are routinely prescribed seizure meds to control the migraines. It's all hormonal in my book.

We live in a toxic world - look up xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens - you'll be amazed at what you learn. The beef we eat is loaded with hormones!!!!!!!!!!! We don't need anymore.

Get your vitamin levels checked and try to take some magnesium for the migraines too.
If you're a coffee drinker, magnesium is depleted in the body by the caffeine.

Keep track of these migraines on a calendar and see if they come before, during and after your menstrual cycle. Also make note of whether they're worse around the new and full moons.

Are you exposed to chemicals? I've become very sensitive to smells, cigarettes, perfume, wood smoke, cleaning chemicals, bleach, to name a few. Are you around fluorescent lights? Are you under stress, not getting enough sleep, around alot of EMF's (cell phones, cordless phones, computers, TV, electronics)? They're all toxic to our bodies.

I hope I gave you a place to start looking. Ask me more questions if you want to. I'm here for you. You might want to put your question over on the menopause board and see what else people have to say.

If it has been two years since you were last tested for thyroid disorder and or diabetes it is time you were tested again. You don't say what is going on in your life. Any deaths in the family? Sounds like you try to do healthy things. Do you take a multivitamin or other supplement? Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Wisdom teeth can be a cause of migraine. Do you drink alcohol to excess? I also think you may be experiencing menopausal symptoms and that could cause depression due to fluctuating hormone levels or blood levels.

Thank you both for your input. I will talk to my doctor if it could be hormonal and i have been under a great deal of stress the last two years. I don't deal well with stress. I've had these problems for a few years but they keep getting worse. My sister has hypothyroid and I have most all the symptoms but they said I didn't have that. I just want a solution as it has gotten so bad I am unable to work because some days I feel terrible and others I can function. My husband has been really great and tells me don't worry about working just get better. I can manage with the migraines, the doctor gave me some medicine for that but its being cold all the time I can't take anymore. Oh I do not drink and I do not smoke or drink coffee, but I do drink Alot of tea. So I know I need to give up the caffine but that is my only bad habit...Its a hard habit to break but I have cut back.

I would bet money it's thyroid related.....
you need a few diff blood tests....the TSH, the FT3, FT4, and TPO antibodies.
I'd suggest browsing the thyroid board a bit.....your story sounds very familiar.....

I drink decaf Lipton tea. It's really good. You might feel alitttle more tired after you get off all caffeine but you will soon feel better. You may want to go to a different doctor also.

This sounds EXACTLY like thyroid.

Make sure the doc is using the most up to date reference ranges for thyroid. Any TSH over 2.0 is high. The old reference was 5.0 and some doctors still use that reference, or 4.5- and it leaves a lot of people un-treated that are indeed hypothyroid. My old doc used the 5.0 reference and left me untreated for nine years. My symptoms were the same as yours.

Also you should have your FT3, FT4, Vitamin D and TPO antibodies tested.

One thing that really helped my dry skin was when I started using flaxseed oil. I use it as part of my oil & vinegar salad dressing. It really helped, even before I started taking thyroid hormone. Unfortunately I don't know what to suggest for the rest of it short of getting diagnosed and treated, and even then you have to be patient because it can take a while to get the right dosage and if you have hashi's your thyroid levels can fluctuate naturally which gives you good and bad days.

Yes... Thyroid!
Your symptoms are classic. Unfortunately, too many MDs have no understanding at all of this disorder. Even if they order the right tests (most don't), they often don't know how to interpret them.

Visit the Thyroid Disorders board and start reading the "Thyroid Information" sticky thread there. Browse the reader posts. You'll see just how common it is not to be diagnosed without intense effort on your part to get it.
