Tips On Writing Poetry?

Well, I am very glad that you have decided to begin to write poetry. Poetry should come from the heart, gargle with life and rinse with ink. You should let your emotions inner emotions and feelings flow from your soul into your heart and through your pen and onto your paper. Write about anything you want, grasp onto something that interests you. Inspiration is the key to effective poetry. Become inspired. What inspires you to write poetry, could be your boyfriend whom you either love to peices or you wish to rip to peices lol. Or a poem for your sick grandmother in the hospital, or even a cute little squirrely you saw while walking home from school one day or even a mother and her daughter exchanging hugs while you are at the grocery store, this could inspire the idea to write about the special bond between mother-daughter. Find your muse. A muse could be anything that inspires you to write write write. Always keep a pen or pencil and a small notebook with you at all times. This will ensure that you are ready to write something down should a really good idea come to mind. You do not want to lose a really good idea. Dime a dozen in my opinion. You can write your poems or type them, that is entirely up to you. Just remember that in order for you to become a better poet, you must also read good poetry. Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, William Yeats, and even modern poets like Nikki Giovanni can be very useful and inspiring. Reading good poetry polishes and enhances your ability to produce good peotry. Strive towards becoming a better poet.

1.Observe through your eyes and listen to everything around you. Appeal to the five sense, smell, sight, touch, taste, hear. When writing poetry, good rule of thumb to TRY to include all five in your poetry although some may be ommitted for adopting different structures.

2.Believe in yourself. Believe that you can become a better poet. Rome wasn't built overnight and neither are good poets. You must constantly and consistently work at it. Just like anything else in order for you to get better.

3. Find inspiration. Seek inspiration from average, every day normal things, such as a tree, or lost or newly found love between lovers, a break up, a close friend dying or crying, happiness, birds, ocean, beaches, anything that inspires you to write.

4. Heart. Write straight from the heart. If you do this, I promise you, a bad poem you shall never write. Be consistent, give it your all.

RHYME: Poetry does not have to rhyme. Those who believe poetry has to rhyme for it to be called poetry are ignorant of the art. There is something called, "prose" which is more free hand and does not have any set rhyme scheme. Normal Rhyme scheme would follow AABBAA but you do not need to include this in your poetry. Rhyme does add spark and can be fun but it is definetly not needed in order for you to write effective poetry. If you do rhyme, use it sparingly, do not force a rhyme.

Well, I love writing in general and was thinking of getting into poetry, but know nothing about it. So what are some tips you can give me, maybe names of different types of poetry? Should most poems rhyme.
Thanks in advance :)
