As a grad. student, I'm going to be a teaching assistant for the first time! I have to lead a discussion every week and grade homeworks. It's a technical class, and my technical skill are rusty because I was out of school for more than a year. I'm worried that I don't have a strong grasp of the material and that I cannot explain well. I also get nervous speaking in front of people. I actually didn't even need to be a TA this semester to get funding. I'm doing it, so I can finally get over my stage fright and move on to greater things!
I want to be a fair and excellent TA, who can motivate and help the students in the subject. Any tips about being a TA to university students?
Also, would it be bad if I became friends with the students? I have to take some undergraduate courses as prerequisites. As a student myself, I will probably see them in my other classes.
