tingling/burning sensations

For a while now, I keep experiencing this tingling type sensation in my legs and feet mostly. Sometimes in my back and arms. It almost feels like if you touch ice for a long time...how it starts to burn/hurt...kinda go numb a bit but not really...it's hard to explain. I've mentioned it to my doctor and she put it off as anxiety...which...I don't know...sounds messed up to me. =[ Anyone have any ideas of what it could be? Is it just anxiety? Can electrolyte imbalances cause that? I know that is probably the cause of my leg/feet cramps.

Hi there,
From my own experience I learned that tingling, numbness in the feet, lower legs, hands, arms can come from a diabetic/pre-diabetic condition. I also know that certain nutrional deficiences can cause symptons such as this. I think it might be the B vitamins especially B12, and iron. All can be checked with simple blood tests.

Anxiety can cause numbness and tingling in the extremities as when we're anxious, we can hyperventilate causing an imbalance of the oxygen and carbon dioxide ratio in our blood. When hyperventilating, it works wonders to use a paper lunch bag, gather the top together with your hand, then breathe into the paper bag. Both inhale and exhale in the bag for as long as it takes for symptoms to subside. I know it works for me.

Don't know enough about electrolyte imbalances to comment other than when I used to work out like a freak, I would drink electrolyte replacements drinks or I would experience leg muscle cramping, nausea and so on.

Hope this helps,
J.

I don't have diabetes...I am tested a lot and it's always normal. I was last tested on 2/23/09 and my A1C was 5.3

I had my B12 and Folate levels checked a few months ago and they were normal...or well, the Folate levels were above normal but my doctor said that's fine. I wasn't anemic last time I was tested, either. But I do become anemic at times. I take a multi vitamin, which helps.

I don't usually have anxiety attacks anymore but I'm anxious pretty much constantly. =[

Hi there,

Sorry I couldn't be much of a help, but I really do hope you find the answers to your questions.
I have anxiety issues as well and can sympathize with you. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Take care and be well,
J.
