Okay I got a 66 stang with a carbed 347 stroker engine, and I'm having to put another distributor in. It had a motorcraft distrib, but Iv'e moved on to get a msd distrib. I'm not familar on fords I work on chevys, but isn't the number 1 plug on the left side of the engine? I have no way of telling if the engine is at tdc other than bumping the starter and when my finger blows out the spark plug hole. Cause the markings on the crankshaft pulley are all faded and has a bunch of number. Any ways, I think I have the engine at tdc cause the rotor is facing the middle of the engine, facing towards the middle of the distrub. Basically the rotor is facing the carb on my car, is this top dead center?

the easiest way to confirm tdc in your situation i hate to say it is to pull the valve cover on that side. check to see that both the valves are closed. i am with you i am a chevy man(pontaic to be specific) 1-4 on the passenger side front to back. found that one out years ago on a 67 galaxie with a 390. as for the rotor position, if it has been pulled out ever, that does not mean any thing. find no 1 and follow the firing order after that.

buy the book haynes manuals are very helpful have you looked up tdc on google for ford eng
