Okay, I got a carbed 347 ford engine with mechanical advance. I got the engine to top dead center. Now my question is how to set the rotor. The number 1 cylinder is the 1st cylinder on the passenger side right? Isn't the rotor supposed to be facing the number 1 cylinder for the distrib cap? The reason im asking, cause this was different on my chevy 350 cause the rotor faced the number 1 on the drivers side. I was thinking that the rotor was supposed to face the number 1 cylinder from the distrib on my mustang. Let me put it this way and tell me if its right. Say your standing in front of the ford 347 stroker engine. and looking from the distrib, I have the rotor pointer facing the 1 oclock is this right? Or should the rotor be facing the 7 oclock? Please dont tell me to buy a manual this is just a simple question.

standing in front of the car, the connection at 7oclock on the distributor cap should be connected to cylinder number 1

Hi
Standing at the side of the car the #1 cylinder is the bank the is farthest ahead. Almost always , there is a few exceptions. And the rotor must point at #1 on the cap.

I would google image a 347 firing order and get a picture. Thats how I got mine for a 302 when I got the wires mixed up when i didn't have the book. I do know you are right about the chevy though. I did that same thing but on a 307.

7 O'Clock. 1-2-3-4 on passenger side 5-6-7-8 on drivers side. yes the rotor needs to be facing the number one cylinder.
