Okay im a 17 year old and i got an ear infection in Nov. 2008. Ever since then i have been sick. One of my doctors said i have a lot of the symptoms of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and she told me to see a specialist...but the specialist NEEDS me to take the tilt table test before i go see her.. i heard scary things about this test and i just want to know if anybody has had it or know someone who has and explain to me what its all about....also is there a chance if i have POTS to make a full recovery..i dont want to be sick for the rest of my life =(

The tilt table test is just one of those tests that are unpleasant to take, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't even take all that long, 20 to 30 min - but you could pass out during it* and if you're like me (I have type of dysautonomia similar to POTS called neurally mediated hypotension) that whole passing out experience is something you try to avoid if at all possible. There are more unpleasent tests to take than this one though - trust me. LOL

Young folks who's symptoms start after a viral and/or bacterial infection have the best chance for a spontaneous recovery from POTS. So it is important for the doctors to know whether or not you've got POTS or something else, something that might be more dangerous or longterm.

*if you pass out or start to pass out the test ends immediately, even if you just started. If you pass out right away you "aced" the test.;)
