I have had this feeling in my throat now for over a week, it is a 24/7 feeling. It is not to bad when I first wake up but as the day goes on it gets worse. My dr has me taking prilosec 2 times a day and it hasn't done any thing for it. Sometimes I end up taking a xanax and that helps alittle but it is still there. I have not choked on any fooRAB or liquid. Could anxiety being causing this?

I suffer from anxiety and I feel it too. I also get heartburn so I don't know if its from that or the anxiety. Its a weird feeling like. Sometimes it feels like I have my hanRAB around my throat.

Does your throat feeling ever go away? I have had my for going on 2 weeks now and it is there all day.

In my case it goes on for days at the time and then I may have moments where I don't feel it for a few weeks. Along with that, sometimes I'm stuck with the throat clearing that can go on the whole day. Doctor thinks its GERD.

A few years ago, i had the same thing and after SEVERAL dr visits, tests, endoscopes, all of which were normal, i went to a Dr. that diagnosed me with Globus Hystericus..(alot of info in internet about it)........and its ALL stress/anxiety related or at least it was in my case. Iwas put on medication and had a Major stressor in my lifeat that time that now i realize was contributing to the sensation i felt in my throat. Once i got rid of that particular stressor (which happened to be situation in my life i was able to get out of) ...in time the sensation went away and i weaned myself off the medication. Unfortunately not everything we stress over can be as easily taken care of as my situation was a few years ago but just knowing there was no actual PHYSICAL cause for this feeling, and knowing i didnt have a tumor in my throat gave me the peace of mind to deal with it and it DID eventually go away. Its an awful feeling to live with tho so i can totally sympathize with you. I now have been diagnosed with anxiety headaches, as i have a whole new set of stressors (dad dying of cancer, son out of a job etc)
that plague me 24/7. It is unreal what anxiety can do to your body. I too am now on xanax..and it does help. Im trying relaxation techniques and meditation..hoping that will help. But be assured, if your dr has found no phyiscal cause for the feeling you have it is most like the globus. Good luck to you.

I have that sensation right now. I used to have it only in afternoon/evening time but now I feel it all day and night. My doctor thinks its GERD so now I am on medication... but I still have the feeling like someone is strangling me. I had a Barrium Swallow which came back negative, so now I will wait for school to be done to go see a specialist. At times it feels debilitating, and I begin to get stressed... which might be fueling the problem. In a few weeks I will know.

the same thing happened to me and lead me to the ER,they gave me benadryl and sent me home. the next day i went to my fam. dr. and he gave me tranxene. it helped immediatly!! What it is your throat muscles clench up during stress or anxiety and it feels like a lump in your throat, especially when you swallow. it still happens to me sometimes and i just try to ignore it and it eventually goes away. try talking to your dr. about the possibility of it being stress related.
