Tiger Oscar Fish! - South American Cichlid?

I bought a tiger oscar fish from the pet store and he was dark black with red spots/stripes. Before leaving the store he already became a pale gray color. I assumed it was just because he was scared so anyway its been a couple days now since I put him in my tank and he still seems to be a lil more on the pale side, definitely not the color I first saw him as. He's probably about 3 inches in size with another cichlid about 2 inches and they're both in a 10 gallon tank. I don't think he should be stressed but also I've noticed him trying to swim into the glass where it seems to be reflective; as in maybe he's trying to attack himself or something like that. I'm just wondering if he needs more time to return to his dark black color or if he will probably stay this paler color? It's probably been about 3 days since I got him. Thanks!
 
Fish being moved from tank to tank is a stressful process which will effect the coloring on the fish. Color should become more normal in time, but that's not what's concerning me here.How long you plan on keeping this Oscar in a 10 gallon tank? A proper tank for a single Oscar is no less then a 55 gallon tank. Oscars grow rapidly and it's not going to be long before that tiny 10 gallon tank becomes too small for it. As well too, this "other cichlid" what is it?
 
pale color is due to poor water or if the water is too cold. Check your ammonia level if it is high thats your problem. I bet it is because those fish are very messy and produce lots of waste and should NEVER be kepts in a 10 Gal tank unless being treated for an illness.If you do not plan on getting a larger thank for your fish you should bring the fish back. Is your tank cycled?
 
He's probably still stressed. have you ever moved? If so, think about hard it was for you tosettle in your new home. Just as long as he eats well, don't worry too much.
 
r your water conditions good?its still stressed, wait a week and see what happends.
