I just got a 2004 Ford F150 4x4 Lariat 5.4L Triton. I think I got a good deal on my truck. The exterior and interior are in great condition; however, it has 140,000 miles and it shows a continuous ticking or knocking noise. According to a mechanic that I know the problem might be one of the lifters (diagnose made by just listening to the vehicle). I’ve read some posts stating that the noise is caused most of the time by the cam phasers, so at this point I’m very confused. I’m very happy with my truck, but I really want to know if I have to worry about this noise. What might happen to the engine if I don’t fix it? What can I do?
PS. The mechanic’s diagnostic computer showed no problems at all.
Thanks!
