I just received a $35 ticket for parking on the sidewalk at the mall near bicycle spaces and $30 for no license plate. Does the city police have jurisdiction to cite at the mall which I thought was a private property???

IMO they do not, just like they can not give you a ticket if you run thu a stop sign in a Target parking lot. I bet they will dismiss it when you take it to the judge. I always park my motorcycle on the side walk by stores. People wont question 3 guys picking a bike up and dumping it into a truck in the parking lot. They stick out like a sore thumb if their truck is on the sidewalk. Also when people are parking, there is a better chance of them knocking your bike overby not paying attention.

I don't know about where you live, but, where I live, the local mall has a security force that is an actual police force. The have the same power of arrest and writing tickets the local cops do. So had you done it at my local mall, the ticket would be valid.

Yes, for sure... I'm not sure if you can get away with the parking violation but fight it.... the license plate one is bogus. How is that c0ksuck3$ supposed to know that you had a plate on the way?

Torrance PD are real pr1cks anyway so why am I not surprised....

I live in Torrance and I actually ran out when he was citing me so I told him that I haven't had a chance to put on my plates. There is a police station inside the mall and security. Do you guys think that I will win if I fight it

I guess so but I guess it's more the principal. I think I'll just pay it but I hate the fact that we can't park on the sidewalk on a private property.

No offense, but why would you think you could park anywhere but in the designated parking lot? Just because it's private property doesn't mean you can do what you want. Why not park IN the mall? That's private property too.
