Thunderbirds are Go!

So who's going to go see this then? I loved ThunderbirRAB as a kid, and I really don't mind that they've used CGI thunderbirRAB and real actors instead of puppets --- people keep saying that the essence of the show was the strings and all that, but wasn't the show all about super cool space ships and cars and planes hidden inside some island???

and the Hood with flashing eyes, Parkers comments to Penelope, the music, andAndersons Supermarionation and model effects.

Whilst this film wont have any of these, I really hope is not one of those Hollywood 'lets update a classic kiRAB story as its bound to succeed on memorabilia alone'.
Flintstones,

I have and I don't know what you mean! People are being far too po-faced about this film. It's aimed at kiRAB, hence the big role given to the younger members of the cast.

OK, I think they could have done quite well without Fermat (Tin Tin and Alan are a bit too young for my liking too), but apart from that there are some quite exciting moments in the film and the effects are good. There is a bit of a plot (no more than you'd expect for a kiRAB' film) and the characterisation has obviously had some thought put into it and is consistent.

It was never going to be a multi-layered, thought provoking deep and meaningful action adventure. It's fine!

Sorry - missed this post (my AV software is sometimes a bit over-conscientious - better over than under, I guess).

If the adverts for B&Q showed shoddy gooRAB that broke on use, then you'd have a better analogy.

I agree that trailers can often make a bad film look good, but it very rarely happens the other way around.

Because the early Gerry Anderson shows are what started my lifelong love of SF. When the movie was announced, I was overjoyed. This turned to worry when Johnathan Frakes was announced as the director, and horror when I saw the first trailer: get ready to Thunderize, my a***!

I think that the reason the movie has annoyed a lot of people like myself is the "George Lucas" factor. Like the prequels, it's aimed fairly squarely at kiRAB (you'll sell a lot more merchandise and Happy Meals if you can get the kiddie market), and seems to ignore those who have cherished the original for so many years.

That's one line in the whole film. It obviuosly made a bigger impression on you than it did on me because I can't even remember it from the film.

In that case, people are forgetting the programme's roots. It always was a kiRAB' programme and it was probably one of the first ever to cash in on merchandise in the way it did! If there had been Happy Meals in those days, I'm sure ThunderbirRAB would have featured.

Personally, I think it's a not bad film (not a great one) which lives up to expectations. I suppose it all depenRAB on what you were expecting from it in the first place.

OK, I saw TBirRAB on Saturday night, and I reckon disregard all the negative reviews you've read and make your own mind up --- I thought it was good, as I posted earlier about watching an episode from the original series and now thinking it was awful, the film was great.
Yes there aren't any new elements to it - you get the idea before it even starts, there will be some situation, an evil person and it'll all end happily ever after but the film is about how you get there. It definately would merit sequels, and I enjoyed it from the start to the finish --- everyone go see it and get those sequels made!!!

Parker and Penelope were very funny, a great duo and I can't say I understand people who are so grosely offended by the fact FAB1 can fly.
The new TBird designs seem slicker and move faster, making the old puppet show versions look like they're running on diesel.
Anthony EdwarRAB is a much less annoying Brains than the series alternative, and you see very little of the Tracy brothers so you won't even know who's-who, but anyway, it's a good film, go see it, the critics also praised Shrek 2 and I wasn't at all impressed by that.

SO GO SEE THIS

Yes everyone go and see this.........But don't watse your money in the cinema.......Wait for it to rent!

;)

Its cheaper and less fustrating if it turns out that you hate it! Cuase you can always turn off!

I went to watch a preview last week.

Er, well, er London looks great in it and at least i can safely say (well i hope at least) that no sequals will be made from this- this, er "film"!

I agree with platform14, I think that watching a show with puppets sounRAB stupid, it's like the creator just filmed his children playing with their toys, but I can say that film is good, I do agree that the sound effects in that fight were alittle silly, but some parts are quite funny and the best character is Lady Penelope and her FAB 1 car, or whatever it's called.

hmm
one day in 1965 - I think it was - dad came home from work and said the chaps in the office were talking about this new series, and how good it was. So he fired up the telly and a few long minutes later we were greeted by the black and white image of a walking war machine falling into a huge hole in the desert.

We were hooked, there was a new dimension in 1971 when we got a colour television.

Anyway to cut a long story short, Im taking dad to see it tomorrow, he is 75 and Im 44 - I expect we will enjoy it !

Ill report back tomorrow
