I found myself upon a bridge
The deepest of the river coursing down below
The sharp wind was making the tree branches quiver
And the remnants of sunlight cast an anxious glow

I glanced to my right, where the bridge met shore
To a large, stone path leading back into town
I know I should begin my journey back home
Off the bridge, uninviting, as it curves back down

Down the bridge to the left is a world so different
A forest packed full with magic and wonder
Enticing mystery weaved between the trees
So entrancing, my heart is torn asunder

The forest is a lovely place to be, really
An absolute calm nestled in a chaotic world
A setting in which time falls apart
And life's ambiguities slowly unfurl

The bridge is the portal between the two worlds
A crossing over the barrier of water and stone
Yet between the two worlds I must make a choice
Because for me, the bridge will not condone.

To the right is where I'm supposed to go
It is where I came from, after all
But it's the woods that I cannot turn away from
The braches as they bend, the leaves as they fall

And suddenly the path I should take is clear
As if its been nothing other than my fate
The woods and us; we're not that different
And so the town will have to wait.
