These people who complain "This high school has over a 50% dropout rate. These students have less than a 50/50 chance of graduating. This is horrible!"
but then....
you'd ask them, "Should we raise the standards to graduate?"
They'd likely respond, "Yes. Of course."
"Should we require foreign language to graduate?"
needless to say, they'd respond "Yes. of course."
"Should such and such be required to graduate?"
"of course, we need to raise the standards."
"Is it good to have these standardized tests to graduate?"
(well some actually have came to the senes on this issue, but a lot of them still say "Yes, testing is good, we must evaluate them.")
If you thought the dropout rates were bad before..............wait until these people get their way. wait until these students have to take foreign language and all these additional requirements they call "higher standards." I could see the dropout rate being as much as 75%.
