Oh my stars! I can barley breathe! No joke, this pain and rigidity is so severe in the morinings that I cannot roll over in bed, sit up without my kiRAB help. It's so painful and like its all tightned up that I literally cannot take a deep breathe allowing my (rib cage?) to expand with my lungs, its been years, and noone has been able to offer anything, Its all in behind rib cages and in the mornings its worst. Movement eventually restores in and pain lessens throughout day, only to return middle of night -early morning. Diet? Activity? Ideas please....suffering and miserable. Thanks.

What kinRAB of doctors have you seen? Have you seen a pulmonologist? An orthopedic physician? What kinRAB of tests have been done so far? It doesn't sound like a diet and exercise type problem. We're not doctors, but we've had a variety of back problems and can try to help you from our own experiences. Can you give us a little more info?

I wish you the best,
Emily

Hello and welcome to the board, barley...You will easily find that everyone here is more than willing to help you with any questions that you may have. I also have a question for you...is the pain particularly on one side? Please keep us all updated about your condition!

Hello,
SounRAB like the soft tissue pain. SounRAB like you may need a new mattress. I had a really really firm mattress for about 8 months, and every morning my whole rib cage on both sides deeply hurt. I dreaded going to bed because of the pain. I am a stomache sleeper and my chest and ribs were so painful. I got a seally posturpedic mattress before my fusion and love love love it.

Do your homework on a new mattress. Everyone will want to sell you what they say are the best but know that Seally has been the #1 selling mattress in America for good reason. Simmon pillow tops are horrible after about 3 months. Do a consumer review on your mattress before you buy it. Noone with a seriouse back problem should ever purchase the temperpedic foam matress. With my spondy, I couldnt even get in our out of the foam beRAB without my spine grinding.

Hi Barelybreathing! I can relate to some of your complaints! I've had COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) for about 8 years now and I've had a hard time breathing to the point of needing oxygen 24/7. But, my inability to get a deep breath has been made much, much worse by broken vertabra in my back. I'm currently suffering from breaks at T3-T5 (about the middle of my back) and because of this my posture is bent over and I'm not able to straighten up enough to get a deep breath or expand my lungs completely!! I know what a horrible feeling this can be - almost like you are suffocating!! Have you seen a doctor about this? Next Wednesday I'm scheduled to have a back operation to remove the broken bone and fuse 3 levels. You absolutely need to get to a doctor to have this diagnosed. Good luck! Memere (K'Mac)

Hi Barley and welcome to the board
You could be dealing with many different issues. What types of doctors have you seen and what types of diagnostic procedures have been done? How long has this been going on? Did something happen when all of this started such as an injury or accident? Good luck, I hope you find some answers soon. Please keep us posted.
