this is the most craziest thing i ever saw in Marine boot camp! one recruit made

the stupid mistake of .......? telling one of our drill instructors that his father was also a drill instructor in the past. our drill instructor asked him a question, "who is more tougher? me or your father?" the recruit answered the drill instructor by telling him his father was more tougher! our drill instructor told the recruit. we will see about that, go in the classroom! as all present and former Marines know, our drill instructor "thrashed" him, i think it is called today "getting smoked". this is extra excercise activity. after about 15 minutes of bends and thrusts and mountain climbers, our DI asked him again, "who is more harder, your father or myself?" the dumb recruit stook to his word and said his father! what a glutton for punishment! even after more PT the recruit never gave in and kept telling our DI his father is tougher! i would have gave in and told my DI that he was tougher than my dad in order to stop getting PTd to death but this recruit was relentless! after a while the DI stopped and from that day forward it seems like our drill instructors looked at him in a different light. a week later he became our platoon guide. please tell me what good quality our DIs saw in this recruit who was a glutton for punishment!?
another question, would u say he disrespected the drill instructor by telling him his dad was more tougher?
sorry, im not an English professor YA. im an old country boy from louisiana

The boy basically had confidence. He stuck to his word and the drill instructor saw that in him. In a way it's a disrespectful and in a way it's not. It is because telling someone that someone else is better than they are in their face would piss anyone off. I still can't think of why it's not disrespectful though.
