...covenant on our property.? We've spoken to DEFRA (on the phone) they consider chickens to be "Poultry" (not "Livestock"), okay, so our restrictive covenant states : "No livestock shall be kept on the said land except domestic pets" ,
so chickens aren't "livestock", and "domestic pets" aren't livestock. And clearly they have made an error with the "except", because if they had said "only" domestic pets, then obviously you can only have cats and dogs etc. But we feel that since they say "except" they have made that statement in the contract null and void. Also, this covenant is from 1976, but it doesn't say anywhere that it expires. All we want to do is to have four or five chickens as pets, proper coop, etc., because we think they're sweet, and a few eggs are a bonus. Can anyone advise? And please can it be someone who actually has something of real value to contribute...
