i'm turning 12 on halloween and i'd like a turtle for my birthday. in the past, when i was about 8, i had a painted turtle but we had to get rid of him. now that i'm getting older and i'm getting a turtle for myself, i understand that it's my responsibility to take care of him and know how to give him a good living environment. however, i'm concerned with a couple of things.
i read that the tanks should have 30-80 gallons of water (depending on if it's and adult or baby) however i don't recall using that much water when i had my turtle in the past. so would i actually need 30 gallons?! also, where i live it gets veryy cold in the winter. (i live somewhere in NY) so would i always need to keep a spotlight on in his tank during the cold winter months?
