This guy asked me out and then said it was a joke?

The guy I like has known for about a year and a half that I like him. He asked me out but I didn't say anything because I knew he was just kidding. His friend asked me too and told him I said yes and right after that he said it was a joke. Why did he do that?
 
boys are jerks. trust me i've been asked out as only a joke by like four guys. i don't think they have feelings. maybe his friend just wanted to ask you out as a joke. it's just the way boys work. they're shallow selfish jerks.
