Hi, my name is Jake. I've been the shy weird guy in the school ever since I moved to this school in 5th grade. I didn't really have friends until about a year ago. I've set some goals for myself and I take it step by step to become a more social and great guy to be around. I still have a hard time starting up a conversation with other people that aren't close and being comfortable enough around them and myself to tell some jokes. Now anyways, about that girl. This girl, her name is Maria. I sit next to Maria in one of my classes and her and me joke in class, we are both are funny with each other. Sometimes these guys that are her friends make fun of her but then she will sometimes get upset. I hate when people are upset or unhappy, but me being a social retard that doesn't know what to do to comfort her and make her feel like she is special, which she is. Maybe I should grab my balls and just wrap my arm around her and say something like "Maria, you are the most amazing person I've ever met." Well I guess I'm sort of going off on a tangent.
Here is my real question, how do I get her to realize I really like her and get her to feel the same way about me? I only see her in school and I have her number, but we never talk to each other outside of class unless we stay after together. Should I just text her outside of school and eventually work my way to asking her if she wants to hang out one weekend and move on from there. I don't want her to view me as just a friend though.
