Alright. Here's the background. I'm 28 years old. 6'6 about 220 pounds. Took a couple college courses but no degree. I'm at a point in my life where I have nothing to hold me back. No Job, No girlfriend, No family, No car, no money. So its obvious that its time for me to get on the friggen ball. I'm not genius level IQ but I'm certainly not stupid. I've checked this same question that others have asked before me. The best option I gathered is the Air Force or the Coast Guard. Both of which I am too old for. The work I was interested in doing within whatever branch I joined was Security/Law enforcement. So after leaving I'd like to try to become a police officer/crime scene investigator. I would love to travel. Especially to Europe, China/Japan, Hawaii, or any of the Caribbean islands. I'm not too keen of going into combat and being shot at.

Thanks for any answers I can get.

I totally understand your situation, I'm 29 yrs old....i've been in the military 10 years now....by far the Air Force is better. But if you're looking for some money and a career change, it doesnt need to be the military....

Have you considered working overseas in Turkey, Iraq, Qatar, UAE, or Afgan as a government contractor doing security/law enforement? I've been deployed several times to see these locations and see American civilians working the same hours as me, doing the same job I'm doing...but making over $150,000 per year....its so annoying. look into overseas jobs before you sign your life away to the Army or Marines, they've got lots of contract positions. Pretty much all the Iraq locations are safe now and you can work on-base rather than "outside the wire".

You could also look at Air Force Reserves, i think they have a higher age limit and you can choose your deployments.

good luck
