...$2200...anyone good with cars? I know the owner, hes a mechanic and takes really good care of his cars. The car has a clean title, and looks to be in good condition. I don't know much about civics though, and I'm worried about the high mileage. I need a car that's gonna last at least a year, and $2200 is all I can afford. I know buying used cars is always a gamble, especially at this price, but does this seem like a good choice or should I keep looking? I know its hard to answer without seeing the car, but any advice from someone who knows civics well mechanically would be helpful.

just because its a honda dont mean it will last forever, it depends on previous owners and how they maintained it.

Ask him if the timing belt/water pump was changed.
Drive it and get a feel for how the clutch is.... and if it slips or not
Feel for grinds in the transmission meaning it wont be easy to shift into certain gears.
Look out for blue smoke exhaust, because this means the rings are going, which means the motor is eventually trash.
Look at the front end and see if all the bumper/fender/hood align correctly, if there are gaps it may have been in a small accident previously.
Make Sure the SRS light(airbags) or Check Engine Light Dont stay on Constantly, they should both turn on for a second at the ignition on, when turning the key, but if they stay on you have a problem.
