You are better off going to a bike shop and asking them and also taking a ride on a couple different bikes. There are many factors to consider, you might want a hybrid which has some mountain and some road features but not particularly good at either. You might also want a comfort bike which is going to be a little more upright. If speed is important and you dont really care to much about getting into an uncomfortable position maybe a touring bike which usually has a rack on the back to hang saddle bags. You can also look into maybe a lower end mountain bike which will be able to take a little more abuse than the ones I have mentioned will. The bike shop will be able to better address what you specifically want, I know this doesnt offer alot of specifics but it is kind of a loaded question. I also rrecommend bike shops because they usually carry bikes that will have a warranty and also back up their work.
