There is a newborn kitten in my garden, what shall i do?

Two days ago, i heard a cat screaming in my garden, i'm guessing due to being in labour? It gave birth to two newborn kittens.

We have been feeding the cat tuna, milk and water, so it's healthy enough to feed it's babies, however, today, the mother cat came to our garden and took one of the kittens away. It carried the kitten in it's mouth and took off about 3 hours ago.

So now we are left with one newborn kitten in our garden, it's so cute and it makes little baby noises. I know it's early days, but that kitten is in our garden all alone, is the mother going to come back for it?? I don't know what to do??

I haven't touched it, because i know that if i do, the mother will detect a human scent on the kitten and reject it, so shall i just leave the kitten out in the garden and wait for its mum to come and collect it? What if the mum doesn't come all day??

Please help!! Thanks in advance!

Three hours is a long time for a mom cat to leave a new born, but some do. Watch for the next hour or two as long as it is warm outside. If the baby starts crying and mom does not respond the kitten will need to be adopted by you and cared for. Have someone go to Walmart or the pet store and buy kitten formula and bottles. The kitten will need to be fed every 2 hours around the clock for the next 2 weeks then every 3 to 4 hours for another 2 weeks. The kitten must be kept warm ad it cannot maintain it's own body heat. A heating pad set only on warm will do the trick when you are present. A soft warm blanket material will do if no one is at home to keep an eye on the safety of the heating pad. You will also need to help the kitten urinate and produce a bowel movement. The mother does this by licking the area, Use a warm moist cloth or cotton to rub on the rectal area to help the kittens bowels move, This must be done several times a day. Many rescue kittens die if the rescuer does not do this. It will be some hard work but well worth it. I wish you the best. Hopefully, mom cat will return within the next hour or so to retrieve her kitten.
