Gregorian calendar is used today? There are many calendars that have been used over the course of history. The Gregorian calendar is used today throughout much of the world. It uses the Christian religion to determine its starting point. However, in an effort to be more tolerant of all religions, many present-day scholars have begun using terms other than B.C. and A.D. (from the Gregorian calendar) to refer to dates. What are the new terms?
 
The earliest calendars were carvings on bone 11,000 years ago, followed by the lunar calendar which had twelve months 2,000 B.C.E., Egyptian solar calendar which had 365 days, the Mayan calendar which is based on the sun and the planet venus. The Gregorian calendar is based on the birth of Christ. The Islamic calendar is based on the Heiga which is when Muhammed went from Mecca to Medina about 622 A.D. The years rotate every sixty years.The atomic time replaced the earth time in 1972.

and
