Theologically debating: why is it always an absolute vs. an absolute?

For example, it's never an agnostic vs. a moderate Christian. It's nearly always atheist vs. Fundamentalist Christian.

Why?

Because people don't like to be wrong. If they show doubt, or are moderate, then they might be open minded and would never get to 'win'.
