theme querry

i have a lot of themes for N73, but its a time consuming thing to install them and then check hw they look on the fone! so is there a way to use a theme without installing it?
i have a feeling that there should be a way to do it, as when i go to themes>options>help on my N73, it tells me, "to delete a theme, scroll to it and press , you cannot delete a preinstalled or currently used theme"

that means you can delete the themes that are not preinstalled, isnt it?
can anyone help me with this?

wow.... great blog. y did i not know about this earlier? great content! i have a suggestion: buy a name.com so it will be more easy to find.

As for the previews, the only real way to do this is my old method:

When you download a theme, either A. also save the screenshot (cause usually online they're shown with a screenshot) or B. install the theme, and take a screenshot on the phone. Transfer this to your computer, and name it the EXACT SAME AS THE THEME. If you put all the screenshots and theme .sis files in the same folder and sort by filename, the image will show up next to the theme and you can browse your themes visually.

It's real easy to do if you're just now starting your themes collection.

I've heard you mention this before and it's such a killer idea! For now i've been too lzy to set it up that way but who thinks of that s***.....a guru?

i know "Guru" i normally do tht too, but thena single screenshot doesnt tell you the whole story, especially the icon type n their quality, and i am very particular about icons, so most of the times i decide against using a theme just cuz i didnt like the icons!

Thanks for the kinds words Mark! I think I registered with technorati but the blog does get a good amount of exposure since it's hosted on mobile9.com (the most popular free mobile content site on the internet - and a global top-500 website). I'm not sure what i could do on name.com since I don't own the domain.

Btw, I finally started doing as RCadden suggests a few weeks ago and it makes theme management SO much easier...

I'm glad others are enjoying my idea. To the OP - I would suggest you do the screenshot, then, of perhaps the menu screen? I always did mine of the standby screen with Active Standby on, so that i could see how that row of icons looks. I like themes with rather blank standby screens so that i can easily read my Active Standby stuff.

I think I might actually just start over with my themes collection, I've got probably 30-40 for S60v3, and I haven't even begun to do the screenshots yet. :-\ It's definitely something you have to start doing when you first get the theme, or else you'll easily let things get out of hand.

No, I know - I meant I don't own the mobile9.com domain. I thought name.com might have had some marketing packages or something that you were referring to.

I've already moved the blog once so I'm scared to do it again! I started with a free package on blog.com but within 4 days I was over my traffic limits so a few weeks later I moved it to m9. It took a while for people to move over and I still get some flow over at the old one...

I did the same, though I switched from blog.com to Typepad before I had any real readership, but it was still a HUGE pain in the butt and some of my older posts, the pics didn't transfer.

I've thought recently about switching to Wordpress (again, though I never fully activated the first version) but it's such a headache to switch.

It is a huge headache! Luckily I did it fast so I didn't have many posts to move. I did it all manually actually. You have so many posts I can't even imagine how much of a PIA it would be...

I have to say though - I do love Wordpress! So many plugins and possibilities, and of course the themes are awesome.

Typepad is pretty much the same way, the only difference is in price, and apparently wordpress has a better (read = existing) mobile control panel interface. i don't do much mobile posting, but being able to control things via mobile would be nice. who knows.

here im again! having problems with themes again!
anyway now the problem is, if i remove the themes as suggested by "zeze" thats is by deleting themes files in mass storage mode, though those themes go away, that creates one more problem, i cant install the same theme again, if i try to install it, it says "unable to install", so its like permanently shutting the door on that theme!
i want to install a theme which i had previously removed, but its not letting me do it! :-(

Yup, that's a result of the s60 3rd bug - the phone thinks that the theme is still there so it won't let you install it again! The solution is actually quite simple.

Check out my post here:

Note that after step two, you don't need to worry about WinSiS or any of that. Simply take the folder containing the three or four extracted theme files and copy it (in mass storage mode) to E:\uNsIs\temp\private\10207114\import. Make sure you copy the entire folder and do not rename it.

"zeze" that was pretty neat tutorial! thanx a lott man! finally i could install Ferrari2007 theme again! i had given up hopes!!! i dont know how to thank you!
and Rcadden, even i was thinking about hard reset, but didnt want to do it just for a theme (even though i badly wanted it)

i am so happy now!!
