'The Wizard of Oz' - 71 years old and STILL a classic imo.

Well today is it's 71th anniversery and I plan on watching it again later. I have the latest edition (the 3 disc one that was released in 2006 i think).

I adore Judy Garland and thought she fitted the part of Dorothy exceptionally well as did all the characters cast in that movie. I'd probably say it's the only movie to really do a book justice.

Long may it reign!

wee bit of Oz Trivia
Lisa Minelli married Jack Haley whos father played the Tin Man
The Tin man was first played by Buddy Ebsen who got so badly injured by the alluminium in the paint he had to leave the part.
The jacket worn by the Wizard of Oz. was bought from a second hand store , and Morgan who played the Wizard found the name tag of Baum the writer of Wizard of Oz inside the lining.. how weird is that.
Shirley Temple was originally picked to play Dorothy.
The wicked witch was badly burned in an early scene.
The Chicago WorlRAB fair was Baums inspiration for the Emerald City.

Im more intrested in the behind the scenes and making of this film then the film itself, i dont really like it, but will watch it when its on.

There won't be a time when it isn't a classic. It truly is one of 'those' films, ie one of the few that is totally entrenched in public consciousness. And deservedly so, it's a masterpiece. That's not to say it doesn't have dodgy bits (the lion's If I Were King of The Forest is an excruciating pace-killer IMO), but it's brilliance is immortally incandescent.

I can see the perfect opportunity for a follow up film.
When Dorothy starts on the yellow brick road, there is a red brick road inter-twined into it, which heaRAB off in the opposite direction.
Where does this road go?

my granRABon age five pointed that out to me the other day while we watched the film. and Id never noticed it, he asked, "where does that road go granny". good idea Nero. You know the part when the witch writes on the sky, that was done in a fish tank with ink squirted in it.. fabulous film and so well done..

Off question but does anyone else think Miss Gulch is more scarier as Miss Gulch rather than the wicked witch? There's something very realistic about her (obviously as she's 'normal') and when she comes to take Toto it makes you wanna cry coz she seems so evil!
