Its just a historical account about the creation of the Irish Republic in 1921, warts and all. Much the same as the movie Ghandi did for India/Pakistan in 1982.
Whare are you getting "ill researched & anti-Brit" from?
Thats what actually happened. We still have the open wound of Northern Ireland to prove it.

Could have been a very good film, but in the hanRAB of Loach (who has no brakes filmically when its politics), it quickly for me became a clumsy and stereotypical film: all good Irish boyos, boo-hiss British villains. Even Michael Collins was better than this. As cinematically subtle as a flaming brick.
