This is going to need a little bit of backstory story to get the gist of it all so here it is:
I married into a family with 3 sons. The family is extremely close knit and if you were to imagine snobby old money type of people then you can imagine the type of family I am in. Currently I am the only daughter in law and they love me as much as their sons so to speak so I am definitly one of the clan.
Whilst they have extremely high expectations about things and are relatively formal and well presented people on the outside my parents in law are actually really warm and interesting people.
The youngest son has had this girlfriend for a year. We all hate her. Now I know, we need to let him choose who he wants to be with but from an outside perspective on their relationship she is crazy. My brother in law is 22, extremely good looking, great personality, good deal of money, Harvard graduate and is just starting in stock broking on wall st. She is a peroxided girl from LA, has modelled in mens magazines, looks extremely tacky, has no real career aspirations (other than marrying him) and is an animal lover. Now, being an animal lover is a good thing right? well yes but the first night we all went out together for dinner to meet this girl, she mae everyone go to her choice of restaurant, when I turned up she started crying because I had a leather handbag and my husband was wearing leather shoes??? then she refused to stay if anyone ate anything other than all vegan food because she is a vegan. Being Vegan is fine, making people dress how you want is not. She is such a drama queen also, the typical girl that acts like a damsal in distress so my brother in law can save her. She won't let him go out without her, spends ridiculous amounts of his money and won't get any kind of job, she is so inadequate in everything and won't do anything for herself. She is just a general pain in the ass.
Now he told my husband that he is thinking of proposing to this girl and if that what he really wants than great we will all have to deal, but seriously he can do so much better.
I need an outside perspecitve, how should we deal with this situation? I don't want to be overbearing but this girl is crazy!
