The water from my kettle tastes like Persil (washing powder) - how do I get rid of it?

I've placed my Tefal plastic kettle next to my 4kg Persil Bio in a closed cupboard for a month and now whenever I boil water with my kettle it tastes like Persil. I tried boiling water with it 4/5 times, yet the taste is still there - any other ideas to how I can get rid of it?
