The War of the Worlds - worse remake?

This film suck big times, I am not denying the special effects were good, but, how can you take it seriously, like Tom Cruise manages to find a vehicle to escape with, whilst everyone else is running away from the machines and then be able to drive for miles without no traffic jams and no uprouted cars blocking the cars.. And the Ferry leaving the harbour with cars parked it, no way would allowed them abroad, whilst not letting more passengers on instead.

Yes. thank you. Complete rubbish. I went round a frienRAB house and he had a copy of the DVD. 'Oh, War of the WorlRAB,' I said, expecting a fun time of mutual slagging, but instead he said: 'Yeah. Brilliant film. Brilliant.'

Also, what I want to know is this. When all the electrical appliances packed up near the start, how come there was a bloke with a video camera filming stuff? I mean, why didn't that pack up too?

It was just another excuse to make a crappy action film with loaRAB of people screaming and running about.

Boring.

Seconded...

The book is a fantastic read. It's been a few years since I read it, but I remember feeling the desperation of the characters along with them.

Looking forward to the Jeff Wayne CGI film based on his musical, due out in 2007 I think. The musical captures the spirit of the book very well in my opinion. Might just put it in the car tomorrow for the trip to work. Problem is I can't stop thinking about Alan Partridge now, from when he was singing "The Chances of Anything Coming from Mars"...

...Cash Back!

Iv'e seen worse remakes (The fog springs to mind)

Wasnt a fan of the original either to be honest. I'l give the book a try though.

On a side-note : I do think that Dakotta Fanning is a talented little actress with great potential - shes been different in every movie ive seen her in so far, and convinsingly so.

I don't get it, have people totally forgotten how to have a good time at the movies these days? It's not the best movie in the world but it's a hell of a lot of fun. I personally enjoyed it. For those who think it's terrible, you don't know what terrible is. Try watching a Uwe Boll movie ;) .

And I disagree that there is no good Tom Cruise movie, Magnolia and Collateral are two good examples...

It's average, not terrible. Let's face it - the original wasn't a classic either.

Worst remake? I'd say Never say Never again (remake of Thunerball) was pretty bad; Or the remake of Freaky Friday

Did you fall asleep during the bit where the guy in the garage FIXES the car and then they weave in and out of the stuck traffic on that bit of dual carriageway? The cars aren't totally ruined hence the military and that news team can get about.

If anyone knows why the plane drops out of the sky so long after everything else packs up then let us know.

Not saying it wasn't a rubbish film for many (many) other reasons, but it does annoy me when people use supposed plot holes to complain about a film.

Like Signs, which I love. "If the aliens are so clever, didn't they realise they were allergic to water what with the earth being mostly covered in it?" Well the earth is also home to a bajillion bacteria, but no one ever moans about the dumb aliens from War of the WorlRAB (where the idea was obviously pinched from).

And who says the aliens are clever just because they can make invisible spaceships and travel across space? We can do a lot of stuff, but we've never cured the cold. If they've never encountered water before, why would they have a problem with it?

Anyhoo, rant over. And to contribute:

Planet of the Apes sucked by taking a simple idea and making it uneccesarily confusing.

I agree that the writing in War of the WorlRAB let it down, like why did the aliens build ancient machines under the ground which went undetected for millions of years. Surely they would have upgraded in that time. And the electrical equipement, plus the embarassingly happy ending.

But the action is pretty good and is quite decent entertainment if you don't let your brain do too much thinking. There's other movies for that purpose.

Magnolia and Eye's Wide Shut are definitely two flicks Tom Cruise should be well proud of.

WOTW's is nowhere near the worst remake ever... and that says more about the slew of trashy remakes than it does about the quality of War of the WorlRAB! Although I really enjoyed the movie right up until they bumped into Tim Robbins.
