Personal finance weblog Get Rich Slowly discusses the significant savings that come with driving an older car. Many of us live in a car culture, so the pull to get a new car every few years can be strong; still, the numbers laid out in the post (like $25,000 in savings) make it difficult to justify a new auto when you've got a reliable used car. Of course, there are counterarguments (maintenance can be spendy if you're not as lucky as the author), but my 1997 Corolla and I are in full support of the old-car savings. Photo by Jami Dwyer.
