The Vietnam Veterans (aka The Gitanes)

I'm surprised I haven't heard much talk about this band yet. Altough they're sprung from the 80s I find that there's something timeless about their sound - like a blend of 80's glam rock, the 60's progressive scene as well as the indy 90's. They've also made some intresting covers. Anyone else heard of them?

Hi Kool_Cat

I know these guys for nearly 25 years :)
In 1985 they played in the famous "Batschkapp" in Frankfurt/Germany, and it was great :))
At the end I had all available disks (only vinyl, no CD).
But it was to late, because in 1987 they splitted up :(

Mark Enbatta, the frontman and singer of the VV, wrote on the last disk "Catfish eyes and tales":

"(...) The Vietnam Veterans spent five years together and then decided to split up. We drank a bottle of vodka and thought June would be a good month to stop. I know it's unusual to act this way but this band was a very unusual band. (...)"

But about one year ago I found (by random) "The Gitanes - Strange Girl"

My opinion: Mark Enbatta and the other guys from Vitnam Veterans and/or The Gitanes are the very best
