It started in America (blues-influences Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc). It became a world phenomenon in Britain. It became a social voice in America (Bob Dylan, anti-Vietnam, activists) in America. It diversified in Britain and went into uncartered territory (Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, punk rock).

Both countries have produced so many stars who shaped the last 60 years of music across the world. Hendrix, Beatles, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Stones, U2, Neil Young, countless others from both sides of the ocean (that's just a brief list).

Both countries have added so much to the genre. It definitely came from America and it's roots will always be in American blues, but the royalty of rock is filled with both Britons and Americans. Artists from both countries have shifted and expanded the genre, and artists from both countries have imitated artists from the other countries.

What country deserves the most credit for rock's success and fulfillment?

you can't really compare both countries coz both countries have contibuted A LOT in the music industry albeit mainstream or indie. Is just that their contributions are different from one another and people's taste are different. So, you can't really compare Brit and American.

Britain...how can you deny it? the birth of the white man's blues
